Support for real life

Being a teen can feel like a lot.

School demands, social pressure, changing relationships, uncertainty about the future, and a busy mind can all pile up. Sometimes teens want help but do not know how to start the conversation. We meet teens with respect, curiosity, and practical support—not judgment.
  • Anxiety, low mood, irritability, or feeling overwhelmed
  • School stress, motivation, and executive functioning
  • Friendships, social confidence, or feeling left out
  • ADHD, autism, and neurodivergent experiences
  • Identity, self-esteem, and self-advocacy
  • Family communication and life transitions
What support can look like

Real conversation. Useful tools. No pressure to perform.

Teen therapy sessions are shaped around what matters to the teen, at a pace that feels comfortable.

01

A space that is theirs

Teens can talk about what is on their mind with someone outside of school, home, and their social circle.
02

Skills for everyday stress

We can work on coping with anxiety, communication, planning, confidence, emotional regulation, and relationships.
03

Parents included thoughtfully

We discuss privacy and parent involvement clearly so a teen has space while families remain supported.
Making room for their perspective

When “I’m fine” does not explain very much.

A teen may want help with something different from the concern a parent first notices. We make room for both perspectives.

Low mood and pulling away

Your teen stops making plans, loses interest in familiar activities or seems flat and disconnected. Changes like these can have different explanations. A consultation can help you discuss what has changed and what kind of support or assessment may be appropriate.

Anger and arguments

Short answers, frequent conflict or withdrawing after a disagreement can leave everyone unsure how to reconnect. Emotional-regulation support explores feelings, communication and practical goals with the young person.

If a change is persistent or concerning, you can also speak with your family doctor. Our guide to when a teen may need support explains possible next steps and when to seek urgent help.

Common questions

Good to know before you reach out

We tried counselling before, but my teen did not connect with the therapist. What now?

Tell us what felt unhelpful and what your teen would prefer to be different, whether that is the pace, style of conversation or goals. A consultation gives you both a chance to ask about the approach before deciding. We will discuss fit honestly; a particular match or outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Can a parent get support if their teen is not ready?

Yes. You can enquire about parent support for communication, boundaries and your own responses. This does not require your teen to start individual sessions, and it is not a whole-family therapy appointment.

How much do individual sessions cost, and are receipts provided?

In-person individual sessions are typically $150 for 60 minutes. Please confirm the current fee, session length and virtual options when booking. Receipts are provided; reimbursement depends on your clinician’s designation and the terms of your benefits plan.

What happens in teen therapy?Teen therapy starts by helping a young person feel comfortable and understood. Sessions may include conversation, practical coping tools, support with emotions or school stress, and strategies shaped around what matters to the teen.
Does my teen need to be ready to talk? No. It is normal to feel uncertain. We focus on helping teens feel comfortable and in control of the process.
Can parents still be involved?Yes. Your teen’s clinician explains privacy, its limits, and how parents can be involved at the beginning. Individual counselling gives the teen their own space; it is not a whole-family therapy session.
Do you offer virtual teen counselling?Yes. Teens can meet in person in Burlington or virtually from anywhere in Ontario.
Are groups a good fit for my teen? For many teens, groups offer a relaxed way to build confidence and meet like-minded peers. Alicia can help you decide whether group or individual support is the best next step.
