For tweens seeking individual counselling, we recommend a clinician case by case, considering their needs, preferences, the clinician’s experience and availability.

Finding a comfortable fit

Who would be a good person to start with?

Our clinicians bring overlapping experience, with individual specialties and interests. These profiles highlight particular strengths; they do not define the full range of support each therapist can offer.

If you feel comfortable with a particular therapist, tell us. You do not need to choose someone else simply because your concern appears under another profile. We will discuss your needs, preferences, the clinician’s experience and availability together.

Can I request a therapist if my concern is not listed in their profile?

Yes. You are welcome to ask about working with Alicia, Jillian or Tosha. Their areas of practice overlap, and the profile lists are not exhaustive. We can talk through your needs and the therapist’s experience and availability without automatically directing you to someone else based on a category.

How do you help me choose a clinician?

During the free consultation, Alicia asks who support is for, what has been difficult and what you hope will feel different. You can ask about experience, session style and in-person or virtual options. We will discuss the clinician’s experience, your preferences, the appropriate service and current availability. Areas of focus guide the conversation; they are not fixed assignments.

Who sees tweens for individual counselling?

We decide case by case rather than assigning a clinician by age alone. If your family has a preferred therapist, please tell us. We consider the young person’s needs and preferences, each clinician’s experience and current availability. The consultation is a chance to discuss an appropriate match.

Can I ask questions before committing to appointments?

Yes. The complimentary 15-minute consultation is a chance to discuss fit, fees, format and next steps. It is not a therapy session, and you do not need to share your full history or commit to ongoing care.

What if previous counselling did not feel like a good fit?

You can tell us what did not work for you and what you would prefer, such as a different pace, clearer goals or a different style of conversation. We can explain the approach and discuss options honestly. If you begin sessions, you can keep talking with your clinician about how the fit feels.

Can a parent begin without their child?

Yes. A parent can make the first enquiry, and parent-focused guidance is available when appropriate. Individual child or teen counselling is a separate service; the clinician explains consent, privacy and parent involvement.

How are privacy and parent involvement handled?

The clinician explains confidentiality, its limits and how caregivers can appropriately participate. A young person’s age, needs, consent and safety guide that discussion. You can raise questions about information-sharing before deciding to proceed.

How do I check fees and benefits coverage?

Ask which clinician you would see and confirm their fee, session length and professional designation. The team includes a Registered Social Worker and nurse psychotherapists. Receipts are provided, but reimbursement depends on your insurer’s rules and the individual provider; check eligible designations before booking.
